Connecting the Dots

The Incrementalist Graphic Matthew Michela

This week I am talking to Matthew Michela, President, and CEO of Life Image a company trying to navigate the deluge of information and connecting the dots in the data-rich world of healthcare that remains knowledge poor. Matthew has been in the healthcare industry for an extended period of time and shares his insights into the lack of available data and the early challenge that LifeImage focused on solving – that of getting an x-ray image 150 feet from one side of the road to the other.

Life Image has been living this problem for some time but as they delivered critical access to imaging data to patients, clinicians and others delivering healthcare they realized that their capability could be extended to the multitude of other data being generated about patients. As he points out it is a near-impossible task to deliver good quality healthcare without data, a point that is true throughout our life and I have highlighted before:

You cannot improve what you do not measure

You cannot improve what you do not measure

We discuss the barriers that exist of proprietary data and how Life Image has broken these down adding not only new data sources but working to deliver the data to as many constituents involved in the delivery of care including the patients. Listen in to hear his thoughts on data quality, interoperability and the importance of governance
